Hi all, I am a part of a relatively small non-profit and we are looking at ways to improve our data and volunteer management. Have done a bit of looking around but from what I can tell our best option may be to use a no/low code development platform to make something for our needs.
Has anyone had any experience with Zoho Creator or AppSheet? Or do you know of alternatives?
In particular, we are looking for solutions which are on the cheaper side of things or have a non-profit discount available!
Hello @Broderick - thank you for this post. I'm hoping some users will be able to contribute their knowledge on this. I'm also going to feature your question on our social media channels to see if our wider community can help you out. In the meantime, I encourage you to fill out your profile with some information about yourself and your organization. This will help us have a better idea of how we can help you. Thanks for engaging!

How many volunteers do you have?
What kind of information do you need to manage about them, other than basic stuff like their name, email address, phone, etc.
Do you want something they can update themselves - like input their own accomplishments?
Do you need a scheduling component?
What kinds of things do you nonprofits do?

Hi Steven and Jayne, Thanks for responding!
The non-profit I'm a part of is called Teach Learn Grow (TLG) and we provide free one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to rural and remote students in Australia. To do this we have two main programs, the Rural Program and the eMentor Program, which run with predominately university student volunteers. In the Rural Program, our volunteers travel to communities and provide a week of intensive one-on-one tutoring for students selected by schools. When the Rural Program isn't running our volunteers run weekly sessions in which they develop the student's soft skills via a video platform.
Our programs involve around 300 volunteers every half a year.
In terms of data management, apart from basic stuff, we also need to keep records of relevant documents (e.g. Working With Children Checks), training completion, availability for program dates, past experience in the organisation, recruitment performance, etc.
There is certain information we would need our volunteers to be able to update, e.g. contact email and concession card details, but inputting their own accomplishments wouldn't be a major necessity.
Our current system involves a large collection of JotForms (online forms) which feed into Google Sheets that enable us to keep track of everything. Any replacement system would need to allow us to keep track of our volunteer's data, track submission and completion of training content and, somewhat uniquely, let us allocate volunteers into specific school groups. (Our volunteers are separated out of the 300 into smaller groups ranging from ~5-20, and to do this we use a number of markers to help such as aiming to maintain gender balance, past/previous volunteer balance and ensuring one person in each group has a first aid certification)
As may be able to infer from the above there are some unique circumstances that we would like to account for hence the inquiry into custom development options! I'm hoping there's an option out there which would allow us to replicate all the functionality we've built up in Google Sheets, but improve stability and performance (e.g. We might have a row with data imported from a form, but then have to manually add a note in a column of the Google Sheet. The data isn't linked at all and is just related because it's row number in the sheet is the same!)
I hope that helps provide a bit more info!
BroderickHas anyone had any experience with Zoho Creator or AppSheet?
Are you still looking for help with AppSheet? I've used it with several non-profits and built tons of different types of apps.
They have a free plan, and a 50% NP discount. Let me know if you have any questions.
