I have a computer on it's way out. Luckily my organization got me a replacement before it failed completely.
I've got my backups all ready and now I just need to know if there is a way to transfer my software from one computer to the other. it would be expensive (even through TechSoup) to replace everything.
The main ones are Office 2013, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Premier, and Quickbooks, they were all downloaded but I don't think I have the original links anymore.
So, while I've still got time, can anyone tell me if this can be done and if so, the best way to go about it. Even if I can save some of them it will help.
Since you have backups you just restore the programs and data from your backup to the new computer.
Eventually you will need to update your software to the new model which most companies are embracing which is subscription based or a Software as a Service solution. I think most all those applications you referenced have already gone to a subscription model. In a subscription based model, you just download or access in the cloud the new software on your new computer because you will still have access to the original installation process with the correct credentials through any of the providers.I suggest you bite the bullet and just upgrade. If not that, then like what was already suggested, you just copy all the backups to the new computer and your applications should also work fine. The backup and restore process may be different depending on what OS you are using.
If you're moving between identical hardware, you could try a tool like Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost to make an image backup and restore it to the new hardware. But if the hardware isn't identical this can cause all kinds of problems with incompatible or missing device drivers.
Another option is Laplink's PC Mover. It will move a lot of settings and software, but is far from a perfect solution and not for the faint of heart.
